Technical crisis in the humanist world
It is actual fact, that humanist professions are very popular nowadays. Since school a lot of young people consider this profession to be very absorbing. With such an opinion they are brought up in their families, go to high school, to a university and after all they begin educating their own children that way. Blind alley.
Why is it so? What do make people think that engineering sciences have lost their popularity?
There are several motives.
first modern technology has got such a high extent of growth that the majority of people is capable of operating it without having special technological skill. Consequently there is no necessity for further spreading of technological skill. Humanits application begins prevailing in all aspects of life.
Secondly it is an actual fact that we live in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to explain everything and use things, but not to make something by themselves. Naturally this phenomenon does not influence positively on diffusion of engineering knowledge. People are simply not concerned with it.
Thirdly the resource base has got such a extent of devastation that we frequently have no place for work after studying the theory.
after all a very significant thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it popularize as asked-for nowadays? We can easily get to know it by researching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what images do they promote now? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media show us easy life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a result?
Lack of expert workers in the technical sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a classic jointer planer. This will cause a perilous situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally destroyed. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no experienced teachers able to educate adequate personnel working in non-humanist spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our country do in order to improve the condition? It seems to me that there are several actions to be taken. firstly our country should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs perspectives. Then our country should apply efforts in order to popularize engineering specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to save technical specialities is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
