Best place to visit in Bulgaria

City of Stara Zagora - a rapidly growing economic and cultural center of Bulgaria. In terms of population (about 130,000), the city ranked sixth in the country. The city is located in Stara Zagora field not far from the mountains Sakar and 220 km from the capital of Bulgaria. And nowadays it is difficult to overestimate the role of this small town in the economy, not only his country but of Europe as a whole. Many centuries of Stara Zagora was a strategic base on the way to Belgrade and other major Balkan cities. In the western part of the city conducted archaeological excavations dating back to 1969. Here you can see the first apartment buildings, dating from 5500 BC, as well as construction of the Neolithic and the conquest of the Thracian city. Near the city park you can see the ruins of the ancient theater, which now serves as an excellent backdrop for contemporary theater. City of Stara Zagora was burned to the ground by the Turks during the Russian-Turkish war and then rebuilt. On those times still resembles an ancient mosque built on the site of the medieval Christian church. At the central boulevard of the city is famous throughout Bulgaria Art Gallery with an interesting name - King Simeon the Great. Strolling along the boulevard, you can admire the wonderful collection of paintings of local Bulgarian artists. Stara Zagora today - a modern center where the old small houses have given way to modern high-rise homes.
